The new “Text Message Forwarding” feature in iOS 8.1 allows you to send SMS text messages (not just iMessages) from your computer or iPad that is signed in with your Apple ID. One NICE thing to note is that it does NOT require your phone to be on the same wifi network. As long as your phone is on the internet (even cellular data service) you can send messages!
